MOLE XXVII - 27th Edition

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as the main international mechanism for guiding development in all United Nations member states. Also referred to as the Global Goals (GGs), the seventeen (17) SDGs commenced in January 2016 with a scope that encompasses a broad spectrum of targets such as poverty alleviation, economic growth and environmental objectives.

These goals build and expand on the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by focusing on critical dimensions of sustainable development in both developing and developed countries, including human rights obligations, good governance, social justice, equity within countries, sustainability (particularly environmental sustainability), vulnerability and the exclusion of marginal populations and the poorest of the poor.

The non-negotiable roles of Civil Society Organizations for the attainment of the SDGs are discussed and the main thematic areas suggested for consideration by Mole Conference Stakeholders. By the end of the Conference, participants will deepen understanding on the SDGs, as well as agree concrete policy and practical recommendations/commitments towards  smooth implementation of the SDGs in Ghana.
